USA Serves 'Notice' For News Seasons Of 'Royal Pains,' Spy Series (MultiChannel News) E-mail

USA Network has picked up new seasons for its Thursday original drama duo.

The characters channel has ordered a sophomore campaign of Hamptons concierge doctor series Royal Pains, and a fourth campaign of spy show Burn Notice.

With Burn Notice serving as a 9 p.m. lead-in, Royal Pains became a ratings success out of the gate, currently ranking as the top new cable show of 2009 and the leading scripted performer among the advertiser-coveted adults18-to-49 set on cable this year.Overall, Royal Pains has averaged 5.95 million watchers, according to Nielsen Media Research data, including 2.4 million persons 18 to 49 and 2.7 million adults 25 to 54.,
USA officials note that Royal Pains, starring Mark Feuerstein as doctor Hank Lawson, was the only new show in all of television to generate growth from week two to week three over the last five years. Royal Pains is the first original series from Universal Cable Productions for USA.

The summer's hottest cable series will be back.

Sources said that USA Network has renewed its flagship action drama "Burn Notice" and breakout freshman hit "Royal Pains."

The pickups come amid another sizzling summer for the basic cable network, which is wrapping up July as cable's most-watched network after finishing first during the second-quarter ratings race.

The Thursday combo of "Burn" and "Pains" has been the main driver of USA's ratings surge, with all fresh episodes of the series landing in the top 20 programs on ad-supported cable for the month.

On July 9, the original runs of the Fox TV Studios-produced "Burn" and Universal Cable Prods.' "Pains" drew 7.1 million and 7.3 million viewers, respectively.

"Burn," starring Jeffrey Donovan, is being picked up for a fourth season. The show it helped launch, the Mark Feuerstein-starring medical soap "Pains," is being renewed for a second turn.

'Royal Pains' Royally Whups Network Competition

 The ratings are in and Royal Pains is on top. Thanks in large part to viewers like you and me (patting self on back), Dr. Lawson and the gang outperformed their competition, including the "Big 5" networks, and 'Royal Pains' is the most popular original series on cable. The show is #1 among 25-54 year old's, attracting 2.58 million viewers, and #2 in the coveted 18-30 category. These numbers are nothing to sneeze at, people, keep up the good work, keep watching Royal Pains, and we may yet enjoy multiple seasons of this show :)
