Royal Pains follows Hank Lawson, a New York doctor who takes off for a Hamptons vacation with his brother after being fired for letting a hospital big wig die. Tired of hospital politics and bummed after not only getting fired but his fiancé dumping him as well, Hank was not prepared to jump back into work or love, but discovers both are ready to find him in the Hamptons.
Hank's spirited but reserved character is perfectly balanced out with his off-the-wall brother Evan who's usual enthusiasm for parties and women (which doesn't entirely stop) is redirected into starting and running a conseriage doctor business for Hank. With new medical cases every week plus friendships and love interests picked up along the way, Royal Pains is full of colorful and fun characters and storylines as well.
Sources said that USA Network has renewed its flagship action drama "Burn Notice" and breakout freshman hit "Royal Pains."
The pickups come amid another sizzling summer for the basic cable network, which is wrapping up July as cable's most-watched network after finishing first during the second-quarter ratings race.
The Thursday combo of "Burn" and "Pains" has been the main driver of USA's ratings surge, with all fresh episodes of the series landing in the top 20 programs on ad-supported cable for the month.
On July 9, the original runs of the Fox TV Studios-produced "Burn" and Universal Cable Prods.' "Pains" drew 7.1 million and 7.3 million viewers, respectively.
"Burn," starring Jeffrey Donovan, is being picked up for a fourth season. The show it helped launch, the Mark Feuerstein-starring medical soap "Pains," is being renewed for a second turn.
On this week's Royal Pains, 'Crazy Love,' I expected the focus to be mostly on the Boris shark situation, and a lot was, but overall, the focus was around all of our main characters facing the truth.
This week the tide brought in not only the shark, but two very important visitors: Jill's childhood friend and Divya's fiance! Jill's friend Katie came for a visit to work for Boris on some mysterious research project, which turned out to be the shark, and she turned out to be the one with the shark tooth in her leg. But she wasn't set up as a friend of Jill's just to come stir up shark trouble. Katie was not just helpful in the shark department, but the love department as well. It's always a reality check in a relationship when your new significant other meets your friends who know you very well, and that was certainly the case for Jill.

Some half-hearted Royal Pains fans I've talked with have decided Royal Pains is fun, but that nothing happens of note in the formulaic episodes. But to that, I think last night's 'If I Were a Sick Man' says HA!
Okay, so it wasn't the most exciting episode of television I've ever seen, but for Royal Pains, though I've enjoyed every episode so far, I think this was a step up in the action, both with the cases and the personal storylines. And, after seeing next week's preview, I'd say the plot is only building to more excitement!
The ratings are in and Royal Pains is on top. Thanks in large part to viewers like you and me (patting self on back), Dr. Lawson and the gang outperformed their competition, including the "Big 5" networks, and 'Royal Pains' is the most popular original series on cable. The show is #1 among 25-54 year old's, attracting 2.58 million viewers, and #2 in the coveted 18-30 category. These numbers are nothing to sneeze at, people, keep up the good work, keep watching Royal Pains, and we may yet enjoy multiple seasons of this show :)
